چکیده
METHODS. A cross-sectional study was performed among subjects ranging in age from 55 to 74 years who participated in the population-based Rotterdam Study. Perifoveal vessels were counted in a masked way by two observers within 1500 )Ltm from the foveola on fundus transparencies of 34 cases with hypertension, 55 with lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD), 27 with hypertension and LEAD, and 194 control subjects without either condition. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to study the associations.

متن کاملPredictive value of noninvasive measures of atherosclerosis for incident myocardial infarction: the Rotterdam Study.
BACKGROUND Several noninvasive methods are available to investigate the severity of extracoronary atherosclerotic disease. No population-based study has yet examined whether differences exist between these measures with regard to their predictive value for myocardial infarction (MI) or whether a given measure of atherosclerosis has predictive value independently of the other measures. METHODS...
متن کاملRisk factors for progression of atherosclerosis measured at multiple sites in the arterial tree: the Rotterdam Study.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Studies investigating determinants of atherosclerotic disease progression are relatively rare. Moreover, although atherosclerotic disease can be assessed noninvasively in different vascular beds, previous studies have not considered progression of atherosclerosis at >1 site. The present study was designed to identify risk factors for progression of atherosclerosis measure...
متن کاملRelationship between atherosclerosis and late-life depression: the Rotterdam Study.
CONTEXT Depression in late life has been associated with vascular abnormalities. Several studies have demonstrated that persons with brain infarcts are more likely to have depressive disorders. Furthermore, depression is related to the subsequent development of ischemic heart disease. OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between atherosclerosis at different locations and depression in th...
متن کاملCommon carotid intima-media thickness and lower extremity arterial atherosclerosis. The Rotterdam Study.
High-resolution B-mode ultrasonography of the carotid arteries is used to investigate the signs of early atherosclerotic vessel wall disease. To assess whether carotid artery findings reflect atherosclerosis elsewhere, we studied the association between common carotid intima-media thickness and lower extremity arterial atherosclerosis among the first 1000 participants of the Rotterdam Study. Th...
